How To Section

Building a digital sign network is going to totally depend on the type of environment (i.e. Retail, Restaurants, Churches, Convention and Trade Shows, or Universities).

However, there are several universal steps in planning a successful digital signage project.  We call this:

Three Rules of Digital Signage Planning

1) Environmental Assessment and Placement – Positioning your digital sign for maximum exposure is absolutely the first step in any project.  You should analyze traffic patterns in your locations before setting up your signage installation.  Of course, there are also technical limitations to consider as digital signs require (at a minimum) a power source and wireless networking.  For higher bandwidth projects (i.e. HD video), network topology and bandwidth should also be evaluated.  Of course, you will also need to select the size of the LCD panels required for your location and application.

2) Software Selection – The software you select for your project should match your needs.  Try asking yourself the following questions:

  • Are you an expert or novice user?  (how important is usability?)
  • Will you be displaying sensative information? (how important is security?)
  • Will you be playing video?  What about high definition video?
  • Will the software work on your current network configuration?

3) Content Development –
